Introduction

Tidemark is web analytics that keeps the aggregate line and never the footprints of individual visitors. It is built with Laravel, runs on ordinary PHP shared hosting, and shows everything on one light dashboard.

  • Cookie-free, no personal data. Visitor ids are a salted hash that rotates every day. IP addresses are never written to the database.
  • One page. Visitors, visits, pageviews, views per visit, bounce rate and visit duration, with sources, pages, locations, devices and goals underneath.
  • Plausible-compatible. The tracking script, the Events API and the Stats API follow Plausible’s formats, so existing snippets and integrations usually work unchanged.
  • Any database. SQLite, MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL.
  • Room to grow. A swappable event sink, a separate analytics database connection and a stateless app tier.

Tidemark does not follow people across days or across sites, does not build visitor profiles and does not store raw IP addresses or user agents. That is the point, and it means a few things other tools offer are not possible here: you cannot look up an individual visitor, and a returning visitor on a different day counts as a new one.

  1. Quick start: from zip to first pageview.
  2. Concepts: visits, visitors and how numbers are counted.
  3. Install requirements: check that your host can run it.
