Open-source program
Tidemark Cloud Pro is free for non-commercial open-source projects. You only pay if you go over the events included with Pro, and then only for extra event packs. Each approval is reviewed by a person and lasts a year at a time.
Who qualifies
All of these need to be true:
- The project is open source. The source is public and released under a recognised open-source license.
- It is non-commercial. The project, and the site you want to measure, don't sell anything. That means no paid products or plans, no paid hosting or support, no ads or sponsored placements, and no paid tier of the same project.
- The site is the project's own. It is the project's website, documentation or demo, not an unrelated site run by one of its maintainers.
Donations through a sponsorship page (GitHub Sponsors, Open Collective and similar) don't count as selling anything. If you aren't sure whether your project qualifies, ask: we would rather talk it through than guess.
What you get
- Everything in Pro: unlimited sites, 250,000 events a month and five years of history. See Plans and limits.
- No charge for the plan itself. If you ever need more than 250,000 events a month, extra event packs are sold at the normal price. They are optional, and you are never charged automatically.
- The same direct email support as every Cloud customer.
How to apply
-
Create a Tidemark Cloud account if you don't have one yet, using the email address you want the approval attached to. See Sign up and add your first site.
Email support@tidemarkanalytics.com from that address, with the subject "Open-source program". Include:
- the project name and a link to its public repository
- the license it uses
- the website or sites you want to measure
- a sentence confirming the project doesn't sell anything
- Wait for a reply. Every application is reviewed by hand. We may ask a follow-up question.
- Your account is upgraded. When you are approved, we switch your account to Pro. You don't enter a card, and nothing needs to be installed or changed on your sites.
Renewal and what happens at the end
Approvals last one year. About 30 days before yours ends, we check that the project still qualifies, and we may email you to confirm. If it does, we renew it for another year and you don't need to do anything. If you no longer qualify, or we can't confirm that you do, the approval ends on its date.
When an approval ends, your account returns to the Free plan: one site, 10,000 events a month and six months of history. Data older than six months is removed under the Free plan's retention, so export anything you want to keep first. You can also keep Pro by subscribing at the normal price. See Billing and your subscription.
If a project stops being open source, becomes commercial, or the site stops being the project's own, tell us and we'll end the approval. We may also end an approval that no longer matches these rules.
Not open source, or not sure?
Registered non-profit organisations can get Pro at half price: see Non-profit discount. Everyone else can start on the Free plan and upgrade whenever it suits them.
