Moving your data
Every site can be exported as one file and imported into any other Tidemark install (version 0.12 or newer on both sides). Use it to move from self-hosted to Tidemark Cloud, back again, or between two of your own servers.
Export
- Open the site, then Settings → General → Move your data.
- Choose Download export. You get a
.ndjson.gzfile with every visit, event and event property, plus the site's goals.
Exports of large sites can take a minute to start downloading. Keep the tab open until the file finishes.
Import
- On the destination install, add the site first (its domain can differ from the old one).
- Open Settings → General → Move your data and choose Import a file, then pick the file you downloaded.
- Keep the tab open while it works. Large files are sent in small batches, so there is no upload size limit, and you will see a running count.
Good to know
- Safe to repeat. Visits that are already in the site are skipped, so if an import is interrupted you can run it again with the same file.
- Goals come along. Goals in the file are added if the site doesn't already have them. Other settings (shared links, shield rules, people) are not moved.
- Plan history limits. On Tidemark Cloud, visits older than your plan keeps (180 days on Free, 5 years on Pro) are skipped, and the import tells you how many.
- Visitors stay anonymous. The file holds the same daily-hashed visitor IDs your install already stores, nothing more.
- You need to manage the site. Owners and admins of the site can export and import.
